If you have had a Covid-19 infection and play sports, we need to talk about new medical evidence. First, and this is important, you need to have a physical exam and it needs to be done by a Sports Medicine physician because in our literature, sometimes additional cardiovascular screening needs to be done to avoid potential, unexpected sudden death.
According to an article written by the ACSM-AMSSM in May of 2022, studies have identified findings in certain participants “consistent with inflammatory heart disease following Covid-19 infection.” Most of these findings, though not found in every person, are associated with sudden death during exercise.
This is NOT to be ignored! We want every athlete to be safe!
